Catch all thread
This is just a location for any thoughts on Duchamp and his work that do not fit anywhere else.
The humor of Duchamp
In much of his work there was an underlying humor. Often subtle and sometimes not subtle at all he liked to poke fun. How did this knit into what he was doing as an artist and what does it tell us about what was and what was not important to him?
Duchamp as a foil
During our lunch there was a mutual agreement that Duchamps influence on your own art was as a foil. Please explain what that means to you and how that is expressed in more detail.
Duchamp is still modern
We mentioned in our lunch that even though e died in 1968 his work remains very modern while many of his contemporaries work has become dated. Why do we think that is? what factors caused his work to avoid the effects of time, and what causes other works to look dated.

The Art of the Game
This thread is going to track ideas relating to the idea of the game that was so important to Duchamp. Duchamp spent much of his career playing chess and in fact became a chess master. Here we want to explore the gaming aspects of his work and how games effected his art
Preface to The Influence of Maecel Duchamp
This blog is intended to track discussions on the work of Marcel Duchamp between NHIA faculty and myself, Tim Loraditch. Our discussions will center around Duchamp's work and how his unique contributions have influenced the culture, ideas and thought process of western art. Special attention will be given to each individual's personal experience and observations of the art culture since Duchamp's time.
I hope to gather a collection of useful links that review and provide additional resources to Duchamps work, as well as reading list by subject area, and Frequently Asked Questions. As the project develops the others may be invited to join the discussions which will hopefully benefit both readers and the quality of information.
Please feel free to suggest additional features that could be included in this project.
